And perhaps helmet-cam-toting urban cyclists will now be sharing footage of their high-tension interactions with burly taxi and van drivers in full, 360-degree VR, which I think we can all agree will be a lot of fun. We can also see this gaining traction with certain groups. We do give full marks to Samsung for continuing to push VR in more affordable directions, though. Clearly most people won't want to spend that much cash to shoot VR footage that not many people (at this time, at any rate) will view. As a consumer essential? Well… Not so much. Yes, we're dead impressed by Gear 360 as a piece of tech. With video, the fact that everything's moving makes the effect less jarring. It's a bit like a scene from a David Lynch film, when something extra odd or horrid is happening. The latter gives a rather more weird, bullet-time/druggy effect, with the fish-eye lens distortion being more noticeable. The real fun, obviously, is when you bring in the Gear VR headset and watch your creations as virtual reality movies or stills.

So, if you own a Mac and iPhone/Non-Samsung Android you won’t be getting the full experience and it’ll make using and sharing images a lot harder.Įverything the Gear 360 records is output in MP4 (H.265) for video and JPEG format for stills, so there’s no conversion needed before you upload it to Facebook or YouTube. This is only available for Windows computers. If you don’t have one of those smartphones the camera comes bundled with PC editing software called Gear 360 Action Director. Unfortunately, it’s only available on Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge, Galaxy S6/S6 Edge and the Note 5. It’s very well designed and intuitive to use. Let’s start with the app which allows you control the Gear 360 from your smartphone. Once you've shot your extreme sports video/hip-hop promo/footage of your family having a row over breakfast, you can upload it to Samsung's own VR channel, or Youtube, or view it on your Galaxy phone, moving the image around with a touchscreen swipe. The 1350mAh battery can be removed, or charged via Micro USB. Sealed inside the smooth dome is a DRIMe5s image processor, 1GB of RAM and, accelerometer. While I have used Samsung Pay since the first beta, I discovered that my bank is finally now supported by Samsung Pay, so I'm thrilled I can now take Samsung Pay with me on my wrist and use whichever Android phone I desire - except for the Google Pixel. The stitch lines where the two image meet is sometimes visible, but not jarringly so.

It's not clear what is preventing Samsung Pay from working with the new Google Pixel, but hopefully Samsung provides support for this device soon. The issue with the Google Pixel may be Android 7.1. The LG V20 runs Android 7.0 and is not on the current Gear S3 comptability list, but it works perfectly well with the smartwatch and Samsung Pay. I switched my SIM to the LG V20 and now have Samsung Pay up and running on my Gear S3. I searched around online and found a few discussions over on the Android Central forums that confirmed my experiences, while also stating Samsung Pay was working with other Android smartphones. Samsung confirmed, without further explanation, that Samsung Pay does not currently work with Pixel devices. I repeatedly tried updating and restarting the Samsung Gear app on my Google Pixel XL, but I kept getting an installation failure message after initiating Samsung Pay on the watch. Pressing and holding the Gear S3 top button launched Samsung Pay on the watch and then text appeared directing me to look at my phone to complete the setup. Give it a try and let us know how it goes!

You can now update your Samsung Gear app and use Samsung Pay on your Android phone. I was excited to try this out since I no longer have a Samsung phone after returning my second defective Note 7. After my article, Samsung replied to me on Twitter stating that I could update the Samsung Gear app on a non-Samsung Android phone and use Samsung Pay. The day I purchased my Samsung Gear S3, a press and hold of the top right button did nothing even though the documentation for the smartwatch showed that this action would launch Samsung Pay. I set that device up with the Gear S3 and have been using this combo for the last several days. In addition to the Gear S3 I bought a week ago, I also purchased a used Google Pixel XL on Swappa.
